Al Wasl defeated its guest Al Dhafra by three goals to nil at the end of the twentieth round of the ADNOC Pro League.
Al Wasl’s lineup for the match was as follows: Khaled Al Senani as goalkeeper, and in defense Soufiane Bouftini, Hugo Neto, Gabriel da Silva, and Pedro Malheiro. In midfield were Ali Saleh, Siaka Sidibe, Fabio Lima, Renato Tapia, and Nicolas Gimenez. In attack was Miguel Borja.
Al Wasl started the match attacking in an attempt to score the opening goal, and the first chance came through Miguel Borja after a pass from Gimenez in the fifteenth minute, as his shot went over the crossbar. A minute later, Gabriel da Silva tried with a precise header that was caught by Al Dhafra goalkeeper Amjad Al Sayed.
The post denied Nicolas Gimenez from scoring the first goal in the twenty-fifth minute after a powerful shot, before Fabio Lima put Al Wasl ahead in the thirty-second minute with a header, following a long pass from Nicolas Gimenez, which he rose to and placed elegantly into the net.
At the start of the second half, Ali Saleh confirmed Al Wasl’s lead with the second goal from a quick attack and a perfect finish into Al Dhafra’s net in the fifty-second minute.
Al Wasl lost the efforts of its defender Gabriel da Silva in the fifty-fourth minute after receiving a red card.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Al Wasl’s attacks continued, and Miguel Borja nearly scored the third goal in the seventy-second minute, but Al Dhafra’s defense cleared his shot before it entered the goal.
Al Wasl head coach Rui Vitoria made substitutions, as Malek Janeer and Renato Junior came on as substitutes for Nicolas Gimenez and Miguel Borja. Serginho and Abdelrahman Saleh also participated in place of Ali Saleh and Hugo Neto, while Soufiane Bouftini left to be replaced by Yousif Al Mheiri.
Renato Junior quickly made his mark with a beautiful shot from outside the penalty area in the eightieth minute after a precise pass from Siaka Sidibe.
The match continued as it was until the final whistle, ending with Al Wasl winning by three clean goals, raising its points tally to 33 points to occupy fifth place in the league standings.
