Al Wasl wins the Asian Clash Against Al Muharraq and Tops the Group

Al Wasl achieved its third consecutive victory in the AFC Champions League 2, defeating its host Al Muharraq 1-0 in a match held at Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium as part of Group A, maintaining its position at the top of the standings.

Head coach Luís Castro’s lineup for the match was as follows: Khalid Al Senani as goalkeeper; a defensive line consisting of Rodrigo Oliveira, Soufiane Bouftini, Gabriel Vareta, and Hugo Neto.
In midfield, the five players were Malek Janeer, Siaka Sidibe, N'Guessan Jean, Tahnoon Al Zaabi, and Brahian Palacios, with Matheus Saldanha leading the attack.

From the opening minutes, Al Wasl imposed its attacking style and pressed Al Muharraq’s defense, seeking an early goal to gain the advantage.
The 35th minute witnessed the most dangerous chance of the first half when Siaka Sidibe delivered a precise cross into the penalty area toward Tahnoon Al Zaabi, who controlled it skillfully and fired strongly toward goal, but Al Muharraq’s defense cleared the ball away.

Al Wasl continued to dominate possession and pressure Al Muharraq’s goal, but the team couldn’t convert its superiority into goals, as the first half ended in a goalless draw.

In the second half, head coach Luís Castro made several substitutions, bringing in Serginho and Adama Diallo to replace Matheus Saldanha and Siaka Sidibe, while Ali Saleh, Nicolas Gimenez, and Salem Al Azeezi came on for Brahian Palacios, Tahnoon Al Zaabi, and Rodrigo Oliveira.

Al Wasl kept pushing for the opening goal, and in the 58th minute, Siaka Sidibe led a quick counterattack and passed to Saldanha, who failed to connect properly.
Later, Adama Diallo tried to break through Al Muharraq’s defense in the 68th minute, but his effort was cleared away.

As the match approached its end, Serginho played a long through ball that split Al Muharraq’s defense in the 87th minute, reaching Adama Diallo, who struck it powerfully into the net, scoring the winning goal for The Emperor.

With this result, Al Wasl earned the maximum nine points and remains alone at the top of the group.
