Al Wasl drew with its host, the Iranian team Esteghlal, with one goal each,in the fifth round for Group A of the AFC Champions League 2.
Al Wasl entered the match with the following lineup: Khaled Al-Senani in goal; in defense, Soufiane Bouftini, Salem Al-Azeezi, Yousif Al-Mheiri, and Hugo Neto. In midfield, Brahian Palacios, Siaka Sidibe, Renato Tapia, N'guessan Jean, and Adama Diallo participated, while Renato Junior led the attack.
Al Wasl began the match with offensive pressure searching for the opening goal, but the player Saeed Saharkhizan succeeded in putting Esteghlal ahead in the sixth minute.
After the goal, Esteghlal retreated to its own half and relied on defensive compactness to face Al Wasl’s repeated attempts to equalize, the most dangerous of which was a cross from Palacios to Renato Junior in the thirty-second minute, cleared by Esteghlal’s defense to a corner kick.

Al Wasl intensified its attempts to score, as Brahian Palacios sent a dangerous cross into Esteghlal’s penalty area in the fifty-third minute, which was cleared by the defense. The yellow team’s most dangerous chance came through Adama Diallo, who almost scored the equalizer before his shot was cleared by the defense in the fifty-fifth minute.
Hugo Neto brought Al Wasl back into the match with the equalizing goal in the sixty-third minute, after a distinguished touch and a perfect conversion of an accurate pass from Serginho inside the penalty area.
Al Wasl controlled the flow of play, but the players’ attempts did not result in goals, and the match ended in a positive draw between the two teams, allowing Al Wasl to continue at the top of the group.
