Al Wasl exits Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup

Al Wasl lost to its guest Al Jazira by two goals to one in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup.

Representing Al Wasl: Mohamed Al-Wali in goal, and Hugo Neto, Yousif Al Mheiri, Adryelson Silva, and Salem Al-Azeezi in defense. In midfield, the quintet Brahian Palacios, Serginho, Malek Janeer, Siaka Sidibe, and Pedro Malheiro played, and in attack Matheus Saldanha.

Al Wasl started at a fast pace to open the scoring, and got what it wanted through Pedro Malheiro in the eleventh minute from the penalty spot, after a foul suffered by Matheus Saldanha in Al Jazira’s penalty area, and after returning to the VAR. Al Jazira equalized through Vinicius Mello a minute later.

The Emperor continued its attacks, as Serginho penetrated Al Jazira’s penalty area in the thirty-ninth minute and played a dangerous cross that Al Jazira’s goalkeeper, Stojan Lekovic, pushed away. And in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Palacios almost scored the second goal from a cross by Salem Al Azeezi inside the penalty area, but he did not succeed in following it.

In the second half, coach Mesut Meral made several substitutions to enhance attacking effectiveness, with Fabio Lima, Renato Tapia, Renato Junior, and Adama Diallo coming on as substitutes for Salem Al Azeezi, Brahian Palacios, Matheus Saldanha, and Yousef Al Mheiri.

Al Wasl continued to attack in search of a goal, and Siaka Sidibe scored a goal in the fifty-eighth minute with a precise header from a corner kick, which was canceled after returning to the VAR.

Dangerous opportunities followed for Al Wasl, as Serginho dribbled past Al Jazira’s defense in the seventieth minute and passed a through ball toward Siaka Sidibe in the penalty area, which Al Jazira’s goalkeeper Stojan Lekovic caught. The post also denied Al Wasl the second goal in the ninetieth minute, after a precise cross by Renato Junior that he followed with his head. And in the ninety-sixth minute, Nikola Vukic scored the second goal for Al Jazira.
