
At Za'abeel Stadium, and in the second leg of the preliminary round of ADIB Cup,Play Off ,2nd Leg, Al Wasl achieved a victory over its guest Al Dhafra with a score of 4-2, thus qualifying to the quarterfinals of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup, benefiting from its win in the first leg with a score of 5-1, and winning on aggregate 9-3.
Al Wasl team relied at the start of the match on the 4-5-1 formation, with Mohammed Ali in as a goal keeper. The defensive line consisted of Abdelrahman Saleh, Gabriel dos Santos ,Soufiane Bouftini, and Salem Al Azeezi. The midfield five were Adama Diallo, N'Guessan Jean, Malek Juneer, Siaka Sidibe, and Tahnoon Al Zaabi, while Renato Junior was up front.
The first half began with Al Wasl pressing toward Al Dhafra’s goal to open the scoring, but Khalil Ibrahim Al Hammadi put Al Dhafra ahead in the 17th minute.
Al Wasl’s response came quickly in the 24th minute through Renato Junior, after a perfect cross from Adama Diallo.
Head coach Luis Castro made substitutions in the second half, bringing in Matheus Saldanha, Brahian Palacios, Sergio Pereira, and Abdullah Al Shamsi and Yousif Almheiri instead of Siaka Sidibé, Adama Diallo, Renato Junior, Malek Janeer and Gabriel Da Silva.
Salem Al Azeezi scored an own goal for Al Dhafra in the 61st minute, and Tahnoon Al Zaabi equalized for Al Wasl in the 64th minute after a distinguished individual effort and a magical pass from substitute Sergio Pereira.
Pereira returned to shine and provide assists, offering a decisive pass to Matheus Saldanha who scored Al Wasl’s third goal in the 68th minute.
Sergio Pereira’s brilliance continued as he set up Al Wasl’s fourth goal in the 92nd minute for Matheus Saldanha with a beautiful cross that the latter followed into Al Dhafra’s net, scoring his personal brace and declaring the Emperor’s qualification, who will meet Al Jazira, the title holder.
