Al Wasl and Al Muharraq draw 2-2

Al Wasl drew with its guest Al Muharraq of Bahrain 2-2, in the fourth round of the AFC Champions League 2 for Group A.

Al Wasl entered the match with a lineup that included Mohammed Al Wali in goalkeeping, and in defense Soufiane Bouftini, Hugo Neto, Adryelson Silva, and Pedro Malheiro, while in midfield Ali Saleh, Malek Jeneer, Serginho, N'Guessan Jean, and Nicolas Gimenez were present, with Matheus Saldanha in the attack line.

The match started quickly, as Juninho opened the scoring for Al Muharraq in the second minute, before Al Wasl responded with continuous attacking attempts, the most prominent of which was a strong shot by Gimenez in the fourth minute that the defense cleared. Al Wasl continued its pressure, and Al Muharraq’s goalkeeper Ibrahim Lutfallah saved a powerful shot from Serginho in the twenty-second minute, and Ali Saleh almost scored the equalizer in the thirty-fifth minute after a dangerous penetration into the penalty area, but the goalkeeper caught the ball.

Malek Janeer left the field in the thirty-eighth minute due to injury, and Tahnoon Al Zaabi entered in his place. Al Wasl succeeded in equalizing from the penalty spot through Nicolas Gimenez in the third minute of added time for the first half.

In the second half, Elliot Simões restored the lead for Al Muharraq in the forty-ninth minute, before coach Luis Castro made a series of substitutions to strengthen the attacking side, with Gabriel Vareta, Adama Diallo, Brahian Palacios and Abdelrahman Saleh coming in as substitutes for Soufiane Bouftini, Matheus Saldanha, N'Guessan Jean and Hugo Neto.

Al Wasl continued its pressure searching for the equalizer, and Al Muharraq’s goalkeeper saved a ball from Hugo Neto in the fifty-first minute, and then pushed away a header by Matheus Saldanha in the fifty-seventh minute. In the eighty-fourth minute, Adryelson Silva returned Al Wasl to the match after a precise cross from Ali Saleh, as he rose for it and placed it with his head into Al Muharraq’s net, scoring the equalizing goal.

With this result, Al Wasl raises its tally to 10 points, sitting on top of the standings of Group A.
