The football company at Al Wasl Club announced the completion of the contracting procedures with the Colombian striker Miguel Borja (32 years old), coming from the Argentine club River Plate, to strengthen the attack of the first football team.
Borja enjoys great experience and a rich experience in football fields. He began his football career with Deportivo Cali, where he played his first professional match in 2011. In the same year, he moved to Cúcuta Deportivo and then to Cortuluá, and he experienced professional football in Italy with Livorno on loan. He was also loaned to the Argentine Club Olimpo, and he returned to Colombia with Club Independiente Santa Fe and won the Copa Sudamericana title with them in 2015. In the 2016 season, he moved to Cortuluá and then to Atlético Nacional, with whom he won the Best Player in South America award in the 2016 season.
In the 2017 season, he moved to Palmeiras in Brazil. He was loaned in the 2019 season to the Colombian Atlético Junior team, and then to the Brazilian Grêmio team in the 2021 season, and in 2022 he moved to the ranks of the Argentine giant River Plate.
Borja’s brilliance opened the doors of the Colombian national team for him, as he represented Colombia under-20 and won the South American Championship with them in 2013, Colombia under-23, and the senior national team, for which he scored 9 goals in 30 matches.
Borja won the Brazilian League title once, the Colombian Super Cup twice, the Colombian Cup once, the Copa Sudamericana once, the Copa Libertadores once, the Argentine League once, the Argentine Champions Trophy once, and the Argentine Super Cup once.
Borja achieved the top scorer title on several occasions, as he was chosen as the top scorer of the Argentine League in the 2023-2024 season, the top scorer of the Colombian League in the 2019-2020 season, the top scorer of the Copa Libertadores in the 2017-2018 season, the top scorer of the Colombian League in the 2015-2016 season, and the top scorer of the Sudamericana tournament in the same season.
