Al Wasl started the match with intense attacking pressure in search of the opening goal, threatening the Baniyas goal from the early minutes. The first dangerous attempt came in the eighth minute, when Nicolas Gimenez struck a beautiful overhead kick, which was saved by Fahad Al Dhanhani, Baniya’s goalkeeper.
The “Emperor” did not wait long to open the scoring, as Mehdi Taremi successfully gave Al Wasl the lead in the eleventh minute after making the most of a brilliant pass from Nicolas Gimenez, elegantly placing the ball into the Baniyas net.
Al Wasl continued their pressure and extended their lead with a second goal in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Hugo Neto delivered a perfectly weighted pass on a plate to Cameron Puertas, who unleashed a powerful right-footed shot from inside the penalty area, sending the ball into the net.
In the second half, head coach Roy Vitoria made substitutions to strengthen the attack, bringing on Siaka Sidibe, Fabio Lima, and Renato Junior in place of Nicolas Gimenez, Leandro Spadacio, and Mehdi Taremi. He also introduced Renato Tapia and Ali Saleh as substitutes for Ridwan Popoola and Serginho.
Al Wasl's attacks continued in search of increasing their goal tally, but the post denied Mehdi Taremi a third goal in the seventieth minute. Six minutes later, Fabio Lima attempted a shot but was unlucky not to score, after the defence cleared Mehdi Taremi's ball, which fell to him.
Pedro Malheiro almost scored Al Wasl's third goal in the eighty-eighth minute with a powerful shot that was saved by the Bani Yas goalkeeper, following a brilliant pass from Siaka Sidibe.
The score remained unchanged during stoppage time, and the referee's final whistle announced the end of the match with Al Wasl winning 2-0.
