Al Wasl lost to its host Al Ain by two goals to nil in the closing match of the nineteenth round of the ADNOC Pro League.
Al Wasl entered the match with a lineup that included Khaled Al Senani in goal, while the defense consisted of Pedro Malheiro, Soufiane Bouftini, Gabriel da Silva, and Hugo Neto. In midfield played Brahian Palacios, Siaka Sidibe, Renato Tapia, Nicolas Gimenez, and Serginho, while Ali Saleh led the attack.
Al Ain opened the scoring in the second minute through Matías Palacios. Al Wasl responded with attacking attempts, most notably a powerful shot from Brahian Palacios in the seventh minute that was cleared by the defense, followed by an individual effort from Serginho in the twelfth minute that ended with a strong shot caught by Al Ain goalkeeper Khalid Eisa.
In the twenty-first minute, Yahya Bin Khaliq scored Al Ain’s second goal.
At the start of the second half, Al Wasl began strongly in search of reducing the deficit. Just two minutes after the restart, Nicolas Gimenez sent a dangerous cross that was cleared by the Al Ain goalkeeper, reaching Siaka Sidibe who followed it with a powerful shot, but the goalkeeper cleared the ball once again.
Head coach Rui Vitoria made several substitutions to strengthen the attacking side, bringing on Miguel Borja, Renato Junior, and Abdelrahman Saleh instead of Brahian Palacios, Serginho, and Hugo Neto. Nicolas Gimenez and Ali Saleh also left the field as Fabio Lima and Malek Janeer came on as substitutes for them.
Al Wasl continued its attacking pressure, and Miguel Borja came close to reducing the deficit in the sixty-fifth minute with a powerful header following a corner taken by Nicolas Gimenez, but it did not find its way into the net. The most dangerous chance for Al Wasl came in the seventy-first minute with a strong shot from Renato Junior, but the Al Ain goalkeeper cleared the ball out of play.
The match continued with the same result until the final whistle, ending with a two-goal victory for Al Ain, leaving Al Wasl’s tally frozen at thirty points in fifth place in the league standings.
