Out of our keenness for the reputation and integrity of Emirati refereeing as a fundamental pillar in the path of professionalism and the ongoing development seen by our sports sector in the United Arab Emirates,we at Al Wasl Club express our strong condemnation and deep dissatisfaction with the refereeing performance in our match against Sharjah Club on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
While we express this dissatisfaction, condemnation, and strong protest, the match was marred by a number of influential decisions that did not rise to the expected standard and raised doubts among fans, observers, and referee performance evaluators, the most prominent of which was:
The awarding of an incorrect penalty kick accompanied by a red card to our player Salem Al-Azeezi in the 47th minute, despite television replays clearly showed that the player’s hand did not extend at all, and that the ball was under the control of our goalkeeper.
We affirm that this decision directly led to the loss of the match and the second place position, due to refereeing errors that cannot be ignored by both the field and video referees.
Accordingly, we have officially requested the concerned authorities to open an urgent investigation into the circumstances of these decisions, and to take the necessary measures to protect justice and develop the refereeing system in line with the aspirations of clubs and fans.
