Al Wasl lose in the Eighth Round of the League

Al Wasl suffered a 2–1 defeat against their hosts Al Jazira in the match between the two teams in the eighth round of the ADNOC Pro League.

Al Wasl head coach Rui Vitoria started the match with the following lineup: Dinko Horkas in goal; Pedro Malheiro, Soufiane Bouftini, Adryelson Silva, and Hugo Neto in defence; Ali Saleh, Cameron Puertas, Ridwan Popoola, Nicolas Gimenez, and Serginho in midfield; while Mehdi Taremi led the attack.

The match began at a fast pace from both teams, and Al Wasl threatened Al Jazira’s goal as early as the third minute, when Ali Saleh sent a cross into the Al Jazira penalty area, which Nicolas Gimenez met with a header, but the ball went wide.

Al Jazira took the lead through Vinicius Mello in the 18th minute, prompting Al Wasl to intensify their attacking attempts in search of an equaliser. The Emperor’s most notable chance came in the 36th minute, when Hugo Neto unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, which Al Jazira goalkeeper Ersin Eestanoglu managed to save with difficulty, turning the ball behind for a corner. Soufiane Bouftini almost capitalised on the corner with a powerful header a minute later. Al Wasl had another opportunity in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, when Ali Saleh struck a powerful shot towards goal following a cross from Mehdi Taremi, but the Al Jazira goalkeeper saved it.

At the start of the second half, Al Wasl managed to equalise in the 50th minute, when Nicolas Gimenez followed up a precise cross from Hugo Neto and skilfully finished it into the Al Jazira net.

Head coach Vitoria sought to strengthen the team’s attacking effectiveness by making several substitutions. Renato Junior came on in place of Mehdi Taremi, while Matheus Saldanha and Yahia Nader replaced Ali Saleh and Ridwan Popoola. He then brought on Brahian Palacios and Fabio Lima in place of Hugo Neto and Cameron Puertas.

Al Wasl continued their attacking pressure and attempts in search of a winning goal. However, against the run of play, Al Jazira managed to score their second goal through Malcolm Oliveira in the 73rd minute.

The Emperor intensified their efforts in the remaining minutes to equalise. Soufiane Bouftini came close to doing so with a powerful header in the 90th minute following an impressive leap, but the ball did not find its way into the net. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, the Al Jazira goalkeeper denied a dangerous attempt from Renato Junior, turning the ball behind for a corner following a fine cross from Bryan Palacios.

The score remained unchanged until the referee blew the final whistle, announcing Al Jazira’s 2–1 victory.
