Al Wasl defeats Sharjah with goals from Lima and Gimenez

Al Wasl turned its deficit into a precious victory over Sharjah with a score of 2-1, in the fifth round of the ADNOC Pro League, which was held at Za'abeel Stadium. With this, it added three points to its tally to reach 10 points, occupying fifth place in the standings table.
Al Wasl started the match relying on the 4-5-1 formation, with Mohamed Al Wali as a goalkeeper, and in front of him the defensive quartet consisting of Hugo Neto, Adryelson Silva, Soufiane Bouftini, and Pedro Malheiro. In midfield were Ali Saleh, Nicolas Gimenez, Renato Tapia, Fabio De Lima, and Serginho, while Renato Junior led the front line.
The home side controlled the course of the match from the beginning and pressed strongly on Sharjah’s goal seeking to score an early goal, as the opening minutes witnessed a series of dangerous attacking attempts. But, contrary to the run of play, Sharjah succeeded in opening the scoring in the 22nd minute through Caio Lucas. Al Wasl responded with continuous attacks, but they did not change the score until the end of the first half.
In the second half, coach Luís Castro made several changes, represented by the entry of Yousif Al Mheiri and Matheus Saldanha as substitutes for Soufiane Bouftini and Renato Junior, in addition to bringing in  N'Guessan Jean in place of Nicolas Gimenez, and the exit of both Serginho and Fabio Lima to be replaced by Adama Diallo and Siaka Sidibe.
Fabio Lima managed to equalize in the 59th minute, after a precise pass from Serginho that Hugo Neto set up for him inside Sharjah’s penalty area, and Lima placed it into the net with a wonderful left-footed strike, scoring the equalizer.
Just seven minutes later, Nicolas Gimenez succeeded in scoring the second goal in the 66th minute, after a remarkable individual effort from Ali Saleh, who penetrated Sharjah’s penalty area and struck a ball that rebounded off the defense, reaching Matheus Saldanha who passed it to Gimenez, and the latter followed it with a fine shot that nestled into the net after deflecting off Sharjah’s defense, announcing Al Wasl’s superiority.
Al Wasl continued attacking, but its players were not successful in adding more goals, so the match ended with the Emperor’s victory by two goals to one.
