Al Wasl entered the match with the following lineup: Khaled Al Senani in goal; in front of him the defensive quartet Hugo Neto, Adryelson Silva, Sufyan Bouftini and Pedro Malheiro. In midfield, Serginho, Nicolás Giménez, Renato Tapia, Siaka Sidibé and Fabio Lima featured, while Ali Saleh led the attack.
Al Wasl began the match searching for the opening goal, as the players applied early pressure and advanced towards Al Wahda’s goal. In the twenty-fourth minute, Ali Saleh sent a dangerous cross into the penalty area, but Al Wahda’s defense managed to clear it. A minute later, Serginho attempted to penetrate the right side of Al Wahda’s penalty area, but the defense cleared the ball.
As the first half drew to a close, Nicolás Giménez led a quick counterattack in the forty-sixth minute, but it did not come to completion after an intervention by Al Wahda’s defense. One minute later, Giménez took a direct free kick, which was cleared by the defense and fell to Serginho, who struck powerfully from outside the penalty area, but Al Wahda’s goalkeeper caught the ball.
In the second half, Al Wasl’s attempts to score continued, and head coach Massoud Miral made substitutions, as Renato Tapia, Sufyan Bouftini and Ali Saleh left the pitch, while Matheus Saldanha, Gabriel dos Santos and Brian Palacios came on.
Al Wasl continued its attempts to reach Al Wahda’s net, but without success, until substitute Brian Palacios snatched the winning goal in the eighty-fifth minute from a long ball by Nicolás Giménez, taking advantage of the Al Wahda goalkeeper coming off his line.
With this result, Al Wasl raised its tally to 21 points and moved temporarily into second place in the league standings, pending the completion of the round’s matches.
