Al Wasl defeated its guest Al Jazira by one goal to none in the summit of the thirteenth round of the ADNOC Pro League.
Al Wasl started the match with a lineup that included Mohamed Al Wali in goal, the defensive quartet of Hugo Neto, Adryelson Silva, Soufiane Bouftini and Pedro Malheiro. In midfield were Serginho, Nicolas Gimenez, Renato Tapia, Siaka Sidibe and Fabio Lima, while Ali Saleh played in attack.
Al Wasl began the match seeking to open the scoring, and in the twentieth minute Serginho passed towards Ali Saleh, but Al Jazira’s defense cleared the ball.
Al Wasl’s attacks on Al Jazira’s goal continued. Fabio Lima took a corner kick in the twenty-fifth minute, which was followed by Nicolas Gimenez, but the ball went out of play. Gimenez tried again in the thirty-fourth minute with a powerful shot, but he was unsuccessful in scoring.
In the second half, and in an attempt to strengthen the attack, head coach Mesut Meral made substitutions, bringing on Renato Junior, Brahian Palacios and Adama Diallo in place of Fabio Lima, Serginho and Renato Tapia.
Al Wasl’s players continued their attempts to break the goalless draw. In the sixty-fifth minute, Gimenez played a long ball to Ali Saleh that was caught by Al Jazira goalkeeper Ali Khaseif. A minute later, Pedro Malheiro delivered a cross to Renato Junior that was also caught by the goalkeeper.
In the eighty-sixth minute, Siaka Sidibe fired a powerful shot that was saved by the Al Jazira goalkeeper. As the match was approaching its end, Renato Junior snatched the winning goal with a powerful header in the third minute of stoppage time after a high ball played by Brahian Palacios.
With this victory, Al Wasl raises its points tally to 25 points and moves into third place in the standings, pending the completion of the round’s matches.
