A positive draw with one goal apiece settled the encounter between Al Wasl and their guest Al Ain, which was held at Zabeel Stadium within the third round of the ADNOC Pro League.
Al Wasl relied on the 4-5-1 formation, with Mohammed Al Wali guarding the net, and in front of him the defensive quartet of Hugo Neto, Adryelson Silva, Soufiane Bouftini, and Pedro Malheiro. The midfield was formed by the quintet Ali Saleh, Nicolas Gimenez, Renato Tapia, Siaka Sidibe, and Serginho, while Renato Junior led the attack.
The first half began with Al Wasl attempts searching for the opening goal, with the most dangerous chance for the “Emperor” in the 32nd minute through a cross from Serginho to Ali Saleh inside Al Ain’s penalty area, but it was cleared away by Al Ain’s goalkeeper Khalid Eisa.
Ali Saleh almost scored for Al Wasl in the 38th minute after a ball from Siaka Sidibe and a wrong exit by Al Ain’s goalkeeper, but the defense cleared it.
In the second half, coach Luis Castro made substitutions to strengthen the attack, bringing in Abdelrahman Saleh, Matheus Saldanha, and N'Guessan Jean in place of Hugo Neto, Renato Junior, and Siaka Sidibe, while Tahnoon Al Zaabi and Adama Diallo appeared as substitutes for Ali Saleh and Serginho.
Serginho put Al Wasl ahead in the 47th minute, after a quick run by Ali Saleh, who sent in a precise cross inside the penalty area that Pereira struck powerfully with his left foot to shake Al Ain’s net.
Kodjo Laba equalized for Al Ain in the 57th minute.
In the 64th minute, Matheus Saldanha scored for Al Wasl with a beautiful header, but the referee canceled it after returning to the video assistant referee.
Al Wasl’s attempts to add to the score continued, and in the 92nd minute Adama Diallo was fouled on the edge of Al Ain’s penalty area, leading the referee to award a direct free kick. Nicolas Gimenez took it, but luck was not on his side in scoring, and the match ended in a draw between the two teams.
