Al Wasl and Al Jazira Draw 0-0 in the First Leg of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup Quarter-Finals

Al Wasl drew with its host Al Jazira with no goals in the last rounds of the first leg of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup quarter-finals, with the decider postponed to the second-leg match scheduled to be held at Zabeel Stadium on Sunday, the thirtieth of this November.
The options of the Swedish head coach, Mesut Meral, for the match were as follows: Mohammed Ali Al-Wali as a goalkeeper; Salem Al-Azizi, Adryelson Silva, Gabriel Da Silva, and Hugo Neto in defence; Pedro Malheiro, Serginho, Malek Janeer, Siaka Sidibe, and Brahian Palacios in midfield; and Matheus Saldanha in attack.
Al Wasl began the match with intense pressure from the first minute in search of an early goal, and Matheus Saldanha succeeded in shaking the net in the second minute; however, the referee cancelled the goal after a VAR check.
Al Wasl continued its attacks, with the most dangerous in the nineteenth minute when Hugo Neto sent a cross to Siaka Sidibe, who struck it powerfully with his left foot, but Al Jazira’s goalkeeper, Stojan Lekovic, managed to catch the ball.
Al Wasl’s dangerous chances continued, as Pedro Malheiro was close to scoring in the thirty-seventh minute after an excellent through pass from Malek Janeer behind Al Jazira’s defence, but his shot went past the post. And before the end of the first half, specifically in the forty-fifth minute, Janeer struck a powerful ball after a corner that Al Jazira’s defence cleared, but the goalkeeper Lekovic held the ball.
In the second half, the head coach Mesut Meral made two substitutions by introducing Adama Diallo and N’Gussian Jean in place of Matheus Saldanha and Brahian Palacios to reinforce the attack.

Al Wasl continued pressing to reach Al Jazira’s goal, and Mohammed Al-Wali saved a penalty kick for Al Jazira in the fifty-eighth minute.
The continuous pressure of Al Wasl came with many attempts that lacked success, as Serginho penetrated into Al Jazira’s penalty area in the seventy-seventh minute and played a ball toward the goal that the defence cleared. A powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the eighty-third minute by Malek Janeer passed beside the right post of Al Jazira’s goal. Serginho was also close to scoring the winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time from a quick counterattack, but luck did not Favour him, and the match ended in a goalless draw between the two teams.
